A Warm Welcome from the Pastor
The First Catholic Church in Purcell had its most humble and simple beginnings in the year 1886 by Father Frank Rouquier, a French-Canadian Priest who built the first catholic church in Purcell in Second and Adams Streets in Purcell. Later on, in the year 1887 the Benedictine Monks assumed responsibility for the Catholic Church in Purcell and named it in honor of Our Lady of Victory and Fr. Vincent Joly became the first resident priest and the church building was moved to the current location from three blocks from the former site. And in the following year the parish saw the arrival of Franciscan Sisters from Pennsylvania to establish a convent. Through the generosity of Mother Katherine Drexel, a catholic school was possible for the Indian Children who were 80 in number. Thus, the parish of Our Lady of Victory began to grow and still continues to serve and strengthens the Faith of its current members. Since few years it has embraced the growing number of Hispanic families who bring life and color to the faith of the Catholic Church.
